Birman cats have deep blue eyes, sweet & soft voice, silky coat and contrasting white "gloves" on each paw. Birman cats have rectangular body built with rather heavy lines, usually they are medium sized and their broad face has distinct Roman nose. Their ears are wide and eyes are deep sapphire blue & rounded. Fur of Birman cat is medium sized or long sized having silky texture. Birman cats are not prone to matting cause of not having undercoat like Himalayan and Persian Cats. Their trademark is their symmetrical "socks" on each paw. Base Body colour of Birman Cat is white shade to cream shade. Interesting to know that cats are white coloured at the time of birth, but later in life, they develop different colours.

Usually Birman cat is found in Blue, Chocolate, Lilac, Seal and spotted, blue or lilac, Tabby and tortie variations. Some other colours are in development for this breed.

Birman cat temperament is gentle. Birman Cat is quiet and docile cat which takes interest in roaming around you and following you room to room. These cats are not bossy like some of other breed, these cats look for their involvement in all your stuff but not vigorously. No doubt Birman cat is smart and curious. It is good to keep an eye on our Birman cat as this breed takes interest in exploring surrounding environment and they can trap themselves purposely. Coat of Birman cat is long silky and soft. Pattern of Birman cat is Colorpoint. Their coat is like Siamese, darker colour on face, ears, tails and legs.

Unfortunately, this cat breed demands for long term medical costs and one need to prepare for risks with insurance. Birman Cats are prone to some diseases and health problems like Congenital Hypotrichosis, Shaking and Trembling in Kittens, Corneal Dermoid, High Concentrations of Urea and or Creatinine in the Blood, Thymic Aplasia and Spongiform Degeneration. These cats are not hypoallergenic. Hypertrophic cardio myopathy is known health issue for Birman cats and if not treated properly, it can lead to heart failure, clot embolization in heart and may be sudden death also. Your Birman cat can be healthy and not prone to any of these diseases, normally their age is 15 years. For maintaining Birman Cat health, some exercises are necessary. You will need to take care of proper nutritional food. Silky texture of Birman Cat coat doesn&rsquot matt easily, so comb it once in week for removing dead hairs (it helps in distributing skin oil also). In spring, their coat usually shed but not at larger extent. Warm bath can be good for removing shedding coat. Periodontal disease can be prevented by brushing teeth weekly daily dental hygiene is also good. In every two weeks, trim nails for better hygiene. Wipe corners of eyes and ears weekly. Litter box should be perfectly clean because cats are good in maintaining bathroom hygiene. Initial Medical care like basic blood tests & microchip and Deworming & health Insurance are required for Birman Cat.

Birman cat is usually quiet and have low vocalization. In time of night, don&rsquot get threatened if your Birman cat start doing excessive and unwanted crying or meowing. Moderate level of attention is required by Birman cat. Birman cats can spend 4-8 hours a day alone. Birman cats are slightly active and never mind for being lazy and lounging around. These cats are good for those who look for less active cat for their home. These cats are usually good with guests also and show affection towards them. This lap cat is normally good with everyone and enjoys cuddling & curling up with humans. Their voice is soft and they don&rsquot communicate harshly, just soft whispering to remind that she is near you. These cats like being furry baby in your arms and enjoy resting in laps.
