Characteristics :
Standardbred are long as per their 17 hands height. They are sloping, muscular, having long hindquarters and tail and mane is thick. They have heavier bones & flatter ribs. In Standardbred, bay colour is easily found. Their legs are strong and powerful. They have broad forehead, shallow mouth & large nostrils. For long stride, their heavy long muscles & strong shoulders help them. Neck of Standardbred is slightly arched.
Personality :
Standardbred has considerable endurance & stamina. In looks, somewhere Standardbred is similar to Thoroughbred. Standardbred can be used for pleasure driving also. Turning, stopping & moving forward, they are easily trained in all these. Even they can be ridden without shoes also. If once a Standardbred has been under saddle, weather you drive them for week, months or years or not, they remain same in their obedience with their rider. Amish people also use them for light buggy.

History :
Roots of history of Standardbred is long back in 1700. In 19th Century Standardbred was developed in US. Ancestors of Standardbred are Narragansett Pacer, Canadian Pacer, Thoroughbreds, Norfolk Trotter, Hackney, Morgan. Standardbred Horses are recognised worldwide. In southern Ontario, eastern & Midwestern United States, many of equestrian activities are done with Standardbred horses. In 1879, National Association of Trotting Horse Breeders founded Standardbred breed registry in United States for Standardbred Horses. They are suitable for Show hunter, show jumping, & hunt seat kind of sport horse discipline.
Suitable :
Standardbred are not recommended for novice riders or beginners. For pleasure mounts, Standardbred needs addition direction so that they can be handled properly by competent person. Once trained, many of daily tasks needs of owner of horse can be accommodated by this breed horse. Owing a horse requires money & time both to take care of horse properly to make them useful as they live.
